London Fashion Week AW24 – Paul Costelloe ‘Once Upon A Time’

Paul Costelloe’s AW24 collection ‘Once Upon A Time’ – shown at London Fashion Week – is where Limerick meets downtown New York.

Opening the door on the Lower East Side, taking in the bustling street city of lights; buzzing, eccentric, intricate and exciting.

Pure as the driven snow – akin to a fresh layer of snow undisturbed by footprints – Costelloe’s collection starts with winter whites conjuring up a rich elegance. A pristine colour we all know is so impractical for everyday wear but still we find enchanting.Large white rose blooms adorn hems, sleeves and collars.

Earthy brown leather accessories: wide belt, gloves,  oversized handbags and ankle boots give warmth and pair harmoniously with the fresh whites.

Charcoal greys and rich tweeds with leather trimmings are presented in bold tailoring.

Wool coats in voluminous shapes give warmth and shelter as the wind blows across the city from east to west or in Limerick’s Thomand Park Stadium. Plus a fabulous look for The Cheltenham Festival.

The equestrian jodhpur gracefully canters onto the runway – show-stopping leather jodhpur and tweed jacket with leather lapels are paired together, whilst the softer plaid and floral leopard print jodhpurs are worn with jackets sporting exaggerated shoulders.

Costelloe expressed a personal moment of nostalgia by adding a print based on the street where he once lived. This is found on scarves, tights, shirts and tops. In shades of brown, the print is of New York’s iconic wrought iron fire escape stairs and McSorley’s Old Ale House (the oldest Irish saloon in NY) with a pop of bright yellow from the NY cabs.

Shirt dresses in rich bronze and plaids accentuate the female silhouette with cinched in waist belts and large padded shoulders. Multiple pockets of discrete side seam pockets and large patch pockets give a utilitarian look to these chic styles. Great for keeping your racecard handy.

Tweed suits to cater for all tastes – the midi and mini styles.

Monochrome midi dresses can transition from day to evening and also from winter to spring.

Evening dresses make a grand entrance with their voluminous skirts and exaggerated puffed sleeves.

And in sumptuous velvets.

This collection expresses Costelloe’s view that classic design still has its place in high fashion.
