The last of the British Classics for the year, Doncaster’s St Leger Festival (12th–15th September 2018) also offers a fine opportunity for fashionistas to show their quality.
It may be the end of summer and the weather is cooling down, but this will not deter those hardy Northern racegoers who are betting on summer outfits as favourite.
But just in case the weather does turn for the worse, choose a summer dress that won’t look out of place when teamed with tights, boots and a warm jacket.
Karen Gold’s red mid length dress with its asymmetric circular skirt will look glamorous in both stilettos and knee high boots. The choker halter neckline is ready to catch the last of the summer rays but can be covered with a warm coat or jacket. Also available in black. Price £150.
Karen Gold‘s cropped red jacket embellished with black hand embroidery will keep out the chill whilst still showing off that red dress. Fabric is called Aso-oke, a hand woven silk and cotton cloth made solely in Nigeria. Price £297.
Maggie Mowbray’s Ink Swirl headpiece is dramatic yet simple. Made from sisal straw braid with a vintage crin/linen trim, this headpiece has less chance of being ruined if there is a downpour. Price £295.
Bring out your inner goddess with Olivia & Pearl Aphrodite statement earrings. Although the droplet is large, the mother of pearl and crystal ensures the colour is subtle and complements the headpiece rather than vying for attention. In 18ct rose gold plated. Price £275.
Tresor Paris has brought out a new jewellery collection called Phiiish which consists of bracelets and necklaces with semi precious stones or crystals encased in a fish shape. The stones represent love, health and wealth and can be customised to match your outfit or mood.
Going for black we have chosen their magnetite ball. Magnetite not only looks striking but it is said to relieve muscle aches and pains and maybe all that tension waiting for your horse to cross the finishing line first! This 18ct rose gold plated bracelet is £79 including one magnetite charm. For six magnetite charms as per the image add an extra £70. Different charms are available separately.
A large or medium size bag is a must to carry a scarf and brolly if the weather turns plus a pair of foldable flat shoes when those stilettos start to hurt.
Flo cross body bag in black and white leather from Lulu Guinness has an eye catching pop up pair of lips in bright red. Can be worn over the shoulder with its black and white stripe handle or as a grab bag. Price £350.
Cristina patent leather stilettos from Moda in Pelle are an attractive accessory to the red and black ensemble with its red ombre shade slowly graduating from reddish black at the back to bright red at the front. Price £119.95.
A day at the races can take its toll on your feet and before the end of the day you may feel the need to ditch the heels. But that doesn’t mean you also have to ditch your glamorous look. Keep in style and comfort with a pair of Tatiana ballet pumps from CocoRose London.
In black sequins these foldable pumps are inspired by the Royal Ballet’s production of Onegin. Ten per cent of the sales are given to the Royal Opera House to help fund future productions. Plus they have double cushioned insoles for extra comfort. Price £55.
