VIP day out for mum-to-be at Redcar

One lucky racegoer was treated to an amazing VIP upgrade at Redcar Racecourse at their Zetland Gold Cup race meeting.

Sarah Beaumont from Yarm was selected as the lucky winner of the Golden Ticket after pre-booking her tickets and spent the day as a VIP after her £15 ticket was upgraded to a package worth over £500.

The expectant mother, who works in customer relations for Barclays bank, enjoyed the full VIP hospitality treatment with her partner Gary Briddick and two lucky friends. This included a three course gourmet meal in the restaurant and having the ‘Congratulations Golden Ticket Winner Sarah Beaumont’ race named in her honour which featured in the racecard.

Sarah’s race was so popular with trainers wanting their horses to take part that the race was divided into two. Both were named in her honour on the day and she presented the trophies to the race winners for both races.

Sarah said: “I’ve had such a brilliant day. The meal was delicious, everyone has been so friendly and I even backed the winning horse on my race first race! It’s my partner’s birthday in a few days so it’s a great way to celebrate with friends.”

Sarah continued: “It’s been so nice to have a treat, I’ve never won anything and with a baby on the way we wouldn’t have been able to do all this ourselves.”

The Golden Ticket was in celebration of the historical Zetland Gold Cup race, one of the most prestigious at Redcar Racecourse and has been run annually since the end of the Second World War.

Thousands of people flocked from all over the North East to attend the bank holiday event which included Disney Princesses, stilt walkers, face painters and bouncy castles for children attending.

Amy Fair, General Manager at Redcar Racecourse said: “We’ve had another brilliant Zetland Gold Cup raceday. It’s great to have so many couples, families and groups join us at the racecourse, particularly for this special race day.”

This is the second feature meeting of a busy racing calendar for Redcar Racecourse over the 2014 racing season; the course also putting on a Caribbean Carnival, Help For Heroes Family Day and the ever popular Ladies’ Day. The final feature meeting of the season is the famous Two Year Old Trophy on Saturday 4th October. The next feature racing meeting is the Ladies Day on Saturday 21 June.
