Racing has taken place on several sites around Ripon, with the first recorded meeting on Bondgate Green in 1664. Racing on the present site started in August 1900.
First Female Jockeys
Ripon is believed to have staged Britain’s first race for lady riders in 1723.
Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse
With its bright flowerbeds and emerald lawns Ripon is known as Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse and was voted ‘Best Small Racecourse in the North’ by the Racegoers Club in 2011, 2014 and 2015. In 2017 the Racecourse Association pronounced Ripon one of the best racecourses in the country, along with 10 others.
