About Redcar Racecourse
Racing has taken place at Redcar for many years – originally on the sands of Coatham – with the current site opening up for business in 1872. The first stands were added in 1875.
After WWII Redcar became the first racecourse course to have CCTV, a timing clock and furlong posts. A new grandstand was built in 1964 and other facilities have since been added and updated.
The ‘seaside racecourse’ now places particular emphasis on encouraging families to come racing.
- May/June – The Zetland Gold Cup
