Red is for Go in Red Light Therapy

As a non-invasive treatment, Red Light Therapy has grown in popularity within the beauty industry.

Short wavelengths of red light penetrate into the dermis (middle layer of the skin) to help improve cellular function by stimulating collagen production, which helps improve skin elasticity. It can help smooth the complexion, improve signs of sun damage and it can be effective for acne treatment.

The skincare industry has seen the light and produced at-home beauty devices which are more convenient and cheaper than visiting a clinic or salon.

For Your Eyes Only

StylPro has recently launched two products targeting the fine lines and puffiness around the eyes.

StylPro Spec-tacular EMS & Red LED Under Eye Glasses

This device combines EMS (electrical muscle stimulation) vibration with the red LED Light therapy.

The Red LED light therapy targets the increase of collagen production below the skin to  improve the density of the delicate under-eye area.

EMS targets the muscles around the eyes to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, tighten the skin, and can also help encourage lymphatic drainage.

This lightweight design has three intensity settings and two vibration modes.

Red Light Target Light 670

This can be hand held or fitted in any E26 and E27 screw lamp so you can immerse yourself in the light. Normal artificial house lighting emits a blue light wavelength which can affect our circadian rhythm and disrupt our relaxation and sleep. Using the Target Light as a reading lamp at night can help you wind down ready for your beauty sleep.

It isn’t marketed as a beauty product, more for soothing tired eyes, lifting your spirits and aiding in better sleep. However the 670nm wavelength used has been shown to help skin conditions plus it isn’t called beauty sleep for nothing!

Price £99.

Turning Up the Heat

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the traditional sauna!

Here enters the Infrared sauna which is a little bit cooler (but still hot) only rising to around 69–70 degrees celsius/140 degrees fahrenheit. The reason for this is due to the body being heated by infrared light waves emitted from surrounding panels rather than the traditional way of a heater and stones which increases the air temperature first and then your body.

Both types of saunas will make you sweat and are good for relaxation, sore muscles and detoxification. However infrared saunas do have the added benefit of infrared.

Some saunas use just far-infrared, but some use the full spectrum of infrared – near, middle and far.

Near-infrared is the shortest of the wavelengths penetrating just the skin’s top layer. Here, it helps to remove dead cells and other toxins, helps stimulate collagen production and helps promote skin renewal.

Middle-infrared penetrates deeper to the soft tissues and helps reduce inflammation. It also aids expansion of the blood vessels to increase blood circulation.

Far-infrared has the longest wavelength and penetrates even deeper. This wavelength heats the body from the inside making you sweat, resulting in a deep detoxification.

Infrared saunas are available to buy but can be pricey and you do need enough space in your home or garden to accommodate it.

Infrared sauna studios are on the increase due to the demand so you may be lucky to have one locally. Check if they use the full infrared spectrum.

Yue Float Wellness Centre

Some studios may also feature red light therapy and chromotherapy such as Yue Float in Battersea, South London. Here they have a full spectrum plus a red light panel and a  chromotherapy light which changes the light colour in the sauna to improve your mood and well being.
