Future Champions Festival 2017 – What’s On 13 – 14 Oct 2017 at Newmarket Racecourses: Ladies Day, Style Awards and the Darley Dewhurst Stakes

FRIDAY

Dubai Future Champions Festival Friday combines world class two-year-old racing with amazing entertainment making it the highpoint of The Gold Season at Newmarket Racecourses.

Friday is Newmarket’s annual Autumn Ladies Day and features The Style Awards sponsored by The Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel. Ladies are encouraged to wow the judges of the Best Dressed Lady competition for the chance to win thousands of pounds worth of fantastic prizes including £1000 worth of ESPA Products and a Winter Rescue Spa Break for two, a Range Rover Velar for the weekend courtesy of Marshall Jaguar Land Rover Cambridge, a piece or artwork courtesy of Castle Galleries Cambridge and The Foxley Clutch Bag courtesy of Fairfax and Favor. It’s great fun and free to enter.

On the track there are no fewer than four Group races, most notably the Group 1 feature, the bet365 Fillies Mile. This one-mile contest for fillies is the joint richest Group 1 two-year-old race in Europe. It has been won for the last two years by the same jockey, owner, trainer combination of Ryan Moore, Aidan O’Brien and Coolmore with the fabulous Minding in 2015 and 12 months later with Rhododendron.

Après Racing, which takes place after the last race, is FREE to attend for ALL RACEGOERS and the perfect end to a fantastic day. Radio DJ Charlie Hedges from Kiss FM will host Après Racing. With 1.8 million daily radio listeners, Charlie Hedges is also fast becoming a formidable and in-demand name on the dance music scene. Having conquered the airwaves, the skies (with her Charlie Hedges Presents podcast syndicated across every British Airways flight worldwide), and the dance floors already, she’s also set to debut a track, Kaleidoscope.

SATURDAY

The Pony Racing Finals kick off proceedings on the second day of Dubai Future Champions Festival, Saturday 14th October, with young jockeys aged 9–15 taking to the track. The feature race of the day is the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes, Britain’s most prestigious race for juvenile horses. Successful runners usually become key contenders for the following season’s Classics such as Dawn Approach who went on to win the QIPCO 2,000 Guineas in 2013.

Another racing highlight will be the Betfred Cesarewitch Heritage Handicap, the second leg of the historic Autumn Double, and often nicknamed ‘the Grand National of the Flat’.

DJ and TV presenter, Vernon Kay will be on hand on Saturday to take to the stage and get racegoers up and dancing after the racing has finished.

There will be also be amazing FREE entertainment for all the family to enjoy throughout the Festival including art exhibitions, bars and restaurants, music and the Flavours of Dubai, which offers a delicious experience of Middle Eastern cuisine. After the success of the Flavours of Dubai tent at last year’s Festival, this fantastic foodie experience will return, offering visitors a taste of various foods native to Dubai and the Middle East. Flavours of Dubai is FREE for all to enter and sample the dishes on offer.

All students with a valid NUS card will gain FREE entry on course over both days of the Festival but must claim their tickets in advance.
