Horse racing fans have plenty to look forward to in September, with the schedule packed with a plethora of big meetings in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The sportsbook linked to the Betpanda UK Casino will likely be inundated with wagers as punters strive to win the ongoing battle against the bookmakers.
With that in mind, read on as we look at some of the biggest races in September, starting with one which is one of the most thrilling spectacles of the flat racing season.
Haydock Sprint Cup – Haydock – September 7
Some familiar names will be in the line-up for the Haydock Sprint Cup, but they may be usurped by a horse who has not run since May.
Bucanero Fuerte looked destined to make a massive impact in the sprinting ranks after making all on his seasonal reappearance to win a Group 3 event at Naas.
However, he was subsequently ruled out of Royal Ascot and the Newmarket July Meeting due to travel sickness, but is now fully recovered.
Trainer Adrian Murray believes the horse will relish the conditions at Haydock and odds of 14/1 look great value in what looks to be a wide-open race.
The Coolmore America ‘Justify’ Matron Stakes – Leopardstown – September 14
Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Fallen Angel is set to return to action in the Coolmore America ‘Justify Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.
The daughter of Too Darn Hart missed the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot after suffering a setback, but is on course for a trip to Ireland in September.
Trainer Karl Burke has been pleased with the filly’s recent work and has confirmed she has fully recovered from the niggly issues which sidelined her.
Porta Fortuna and Opera Singer are among Fallen Angel’s potential opponents, but can leave them trailing if she produces her best form.
Irish Champion Stakes – Leopardstown – September 14
Economics continued his rise up the ranks with an emphatic victory in the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano at Deauville earlier this month.
The three-year-old had previously trounced his rivals in the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York and looks more than capable of stepping up to the top level.
Trainer William Haggas swerved the Juddmonte International at York in favour of a tilt at the Irish Champion Stakes and that decision may be vindicated.
Owner Sheikh Isa Salman Al Khalifa is eager for Economics to run at Leopardstown and ante-post odds of 11/4 look well worth taking.
English St Leger Stakes – Doncaster – September 14
Top Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien has an embarrassment of riches for the English St Leger Stakes at Doncaster and it would be no surprise if he dominated the race.
Los Angeles is among his leading hopefuls for the race, while Grosvenor Square and Jan Brueghel are also prominent in the betting.
However, Illinois will relish stepping back up in trip after being narrowly outpointed by Los Angeles in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York.
Illinois was an impressive winner of the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot over the St Leger distance and should be extremely tough to beat at Doncaster.
Irish St Leger Stakes – Leopardstown – September 15
Kyprios won the Irish St Leger in 2022 and is strongly fancied to add another success to his glittering career CV in this year’s renewal.
The six-year-old claimed his second Gold Cup victory at Royal Ascot this summer and will be kept in training with a view to completing the hat-trick next term.
Kyprios produced one of the best performances of his career when winning the Goodwood Cup last month to highlight his current wellbeing.
Three-time Group 2 winner Giavellotto could run into a place, but is unlikely to be able to match Kyprios at the business end of the race.
