As racecourses prepare to welcome spectators back to on course, it’s time for us ladies to start looking at dresses for the races this summer.
To make it easier we have checked out contemporary womenswear brand Closet London’s latest summer collection, which includes some fab dresses perfect for the races.
First out of the starting gate is Royal Ascot (15th to 19th June) which will be opening its Royal Enclosure and Queen Anne Enclosure to the public.
Perfect for both enclosures is the elegant and whimsical Red Pleated Dress with pink polka dots and a sun-ray pleated skirt that reaches below the knee. Price £90 from Closet London.
Don’t forget the must have accessory – the face mask. Match the polka dot dress with Red Facemask with large pink spots Price £6 from Closet London.
If you are going to splash out on a hat, then this is the event to do so. Royal Ascot is all about the hat and most ladies will ensure their hat is the focal point of their outfit by choosing an eye-catching creation.
Milliner Anna Gilder’s gorgeous Pink Straw Mini Boater Hat with red flowers via Etsy is definitely eye-catching. Available under Anna’s brand name FrogAndCrown17, price £340.

Newcastle Northumberland Plate
Hot on Royal Ascot heels is Newcastle’s Northumberland Plate (24th to 26th June).
This three-day festival is the North East’s answer to Royal Ascot mixed with a big helping of party atmosphere.
Go dotty in cute pink spotted V-Neck Pleated Dress Price £75 from Closet London.
Again the Red/Pink Spotted Facemask will be a perfect match – this time adding a subtle contrast with its red background and pale pink spots. Price £6 from Closet London.
Embrace the racing atmosphere with a beautiful hat or fascinator, after all this is the highlight of Newcastle’s racing calendar. Top up that party atmosphere with Inna Walker’s Josephine Pink Cocktail Hat via Etsy. Price £325.

Sandown Coral Eclipse
Coming in for the July racing events is Sandown Coral Eclipse Festival (2nd & 3rd July).
Dress as though you are attending a smart summer wedding and make sure you add a fine hat or headpiece. Being close to London it’s a safe bet that the latest trends will be on show. One of those trends is the puff sleeve. This Blue V-Neck Puff Sleeve Dress fits the bill perfectly. Price £72 from Closet London.
Team with this Ivory Face Mask with its abstract print Price £6 from Closet London.
Heads will turn to admire you in milliner Rose Collins’ Handmade Pink and Orange Sinamay Fascinator via Etsy Price £225.

Newmarket July Festival
Not far behind is Newmarket July Festival (8th to 10th July).
This has a quintessential garden party atmosphere whilst sipping champagne (after all it is sponsored by Moet & Chandon). However it is not the Boho chic style of Glorious Goodwood, think more of a formal summer wedding.
Unlike a guest at a wedding, you can wear ivory and we think this chic Ivory Kimono Wrap Dress will ensure you ooze style. Price £55 from Closet London.
Add a nod to the sponsors with this Only Remove For Champagne Facemask in grey beige cotton from FrogAndCrown17 via Etsy. Price £18.
Ivory is a blank canvas so you can choose practically any colour for your hat. Why not go multi-coloured with milliner Anna Gilder’s Adras Atlas Ikat Pillbox hat made from authentic raw silk adras. Price £120 via Etsy. The knotted bow ties nicely with the dress’s belt.

Another festival with a garden party atmosphere is Glorious Goodwood (27th to 31st July).
Goodwood is one of the most relaxed of the big festivals. By relaxed we don’t mean T-shirts and denims, think fresh, chic and floaty rather than cocktail dresses.
Every flower needs a butterfly, so team with this Pink Linen Embroidered Butterfly Facemask from FrogAndCrown17 via Etsy. Price £25.
Panama hats are THE hat for gentlemen to wear to Glorious Goodwood, but are also popular with the ladies. Andreas Closet’s Fuchsia Panama Hat is handwoven in Ecuador – the country of origin for the Panama hat (yes confusing but true). Price £150 via Etsy.

Galloping ahead to the North of England is York’s Ebor Festival (19th to 22nd August). With prizes for the Best Dressed Racegoer, Smartest Headgear and Best Dressed Couple, this is a festival to go to town and show off your fashion style whether it be glamorously flamboyant or understated elegance.
This Orange Pleated Wrap Pencil Dress from Closet London can be both. Wear on its own for understated elegance or cinch in the waist with a gold belt for glitzy glamour. Price £65.
Add a statement hat with Amore Headwear’s Orange Upturned saucer hat. Price £180 via Etsy.
Finish off with a Black & White Face Mask Price £6 from Closet London.

Doncaster St Leger
Staying in Yorkshire, the next festival is Doncaster’s St Leger meeting (8th to 11th September).
The weather can be unpredictable this time of year, but no matter what the temperature, those Northern ladies are not ready to hang up their summer outfits for warmer autumnal clothing.
This Monochrome Animal Print Cowl Neck Slip Dress is definitely summery but if the weather turns chilly it would still look great with a jacket and a pair of ankle boots. Price £80 from Closet London.
Team with Closet London’s Black and Cream Animal Print Face Mask. Price £6.
Hats are popular but do consider creations that won’t be ruined by a downpour like milliner Rose Collins’ Leather Button Hat with Yellow Leather Flowers and Merry Widow Veiling. Price £485 via Etsy.

Ayr Gold Cup
Just past the finishing post of summer fashion is the Ayr Gold Cup (18th September).
Like the Doncaster ladies, the Scottish ladies are not prepared to relinquish their summer outfits and the day is awash with cocktail summer dresses and eye-catching headpieces..
See the summer out in colourful style in the Blue Chelsea Tulip Skirt Mini Dress with its multi coloured art deco inspired print. Price £75 from Closet London.
Have a flutter with this Pink Linen Embroidered Butterfly Facemask by FrogAndCrown17 via Etsy. Price £25.
Look intoxicating in Amore Headwear’s Wine Cocktail Hat with Veiling. Price £110 via Etsy.
