Commonwealth Cup Winner Set for Haydock

Impressive Commonwealth Cup winner Inisherin is set to contest the Sprint Cup at Haydock as his next assignment. The Royal Ascot hero will be testing himself against the older horses once again as he bids for more Group One glory.

Inisherin won the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock earlier this season so he will be returning to a winning course and distance. However, the three-year-old colt will need to bounce back from defeat on his latest run, as he could only finish fifth in the July Cup.

Three-Year-Olds Have An Excellent Record

Five of the last ten runnings of the Sprint Cup have been won by three-year-olds, which bodes well for Inisherin’s chances. The Royal Ascot winner is 6/1 in the racing odds to prevail in the Haydock showpiece event.

Inisherin is likely to be one of the leading horse racing betting tips for the Sprint Cup as he was arguably the most impressive winner at this year’s Royal Ascot meeting. Under the hands of Tom Eaves, the pair stretched away from their rivals in the final furlong of the race.

Although he was beaten in the July Cup on his latest outing, Inisherin was in contention with one furlong to go but just got outpaced in the closing stages of the race won by Mill Stream. Connections will be hopeful of a better run at Haydock now he has had some time off this summer.

Progressive Elite Status May Get Shot at Group One Level at Haydock

Elite Status has established himself as a leading player in the sprint division this season. He began his campaign in a Listed race but after recording back-to-back victories, he now looks set to appear in the Sprint Cup.

Karl Burke’s runner made his seasonal reappearance in the Carnarvon Stakes at Newbury back in May. He finished that race powerfully, scoring by just under three lengths. Two months later, he scored in the Group Three Hackwood Stakes at the same racecourse. The margin on that occasion was much shorter.

This will be Elite Status’ third shot at a Group One contest. He came home down in the field in the Middle Park Stakes and Prix Morny as a two-year-old. The son of Havana Grey is now a much better horse so his connections will be far more hopeful this time.

Vandeek Set for Third Attempt to Get Off the Mark This Year

With four wins from four starts, Vandeek finished 2023 as the leading two-year-old sprinter in the UK. He ended the season with consecutive Group One victories, as he won the Middle Park Stakes and Prix Morny.

Unfortunately for Simon and Ed Crisford, their sprinter has yet to score in two attempts in 2024. He was third in the Sandy Lane Stakes, while more recently, he had to settle for third place once again in the July Cup.

The Crisford team will be hoping their horse can take another step forward on his third run of the season. If he can reproduce the same level of form as last year, he will be a big player once again in the 6f contest.

The 2024 Sprint Cup takes place on the 7th of September on a card which also includes the Old Borough Cup and Superior Mile Stakes at Haydock.
