What to Wear for The Festival: The weather during the Cheltenham Festival is hard to predict so layering and choosing an outfit that can be slightly changed on the day is a safer bet for your fashion attire.

Houndstooth pattern is a classic and this season it is also a top favourite for the fashion stakes. Choose a wool jacket because although the weather is unpredictable we can safely bet that it isn’t going to be hot.

In wool twill, Holland Cooper’s Knightsbridge double breasted monochrome jacket will help keep the chill at bay. Price £499.

Have a blouse and jumper ready to team with the jacket so you can decide on the day depending on the weather. Chances are that it will be cold so we’ve chosen John Smedley’s extra fine merino wool roll neck in vibrant Scarlet Sky. Was £150, now on sale at £75.

Holland Cooper does have a matching mini skirt for the jacket, length 38cm. Price £99.

If you prefer a longer skirt go for the elegant knee length pencil skirt – another classic that has switched lanes this season to join the fashion race. Toughen up this feminine style with a touch of rock chick glam in leather. Ralph Lauren’s soft lambskin pencil skirt has a two way zip so you can unzip from the bottom and flash a glimpse of leg and on a more practical note; it will allow you to take longer strides! Price £295.

Also available via House of Fraser.

A hat is not essential but Hicks and Brown’s colourful maroon wool felt fedora hat will keep you both stylish and warm. It is also water resistant – maybe not in a downpour but good to know for light rain. The black and white guinea fowl feather wrap complements the houndstooth jacket (although the feather colours may vary slightly). Price £85.

Ankle boots are perfect for both cold and milder days. A shining example is Office’s Attitude block heel boots in metallic pewter. Just add thicker tights and a pair of socks if the weather is cold. Was £95 but now on sale at £48.

As mentioned, layering is key when the weather is unpredictable so take a shawl or large scarf to wrap around when the weather turns colder.

CashmerebyFlavia’s handmade shawl is 80% cashmere and 20% wool to keep you toasty. It is also trimmed with the on trend ruffle. Price £168. If you prefer 100% cashmere it is available in black only at £180.

A large size bag is essential in order to pack all those little extras such as gloves, scarves and even sunglasses if the sun does decide to shine. Bring out your wild side with the Nicole zebra print leather tote bag by DelacyOnline. Price £288.64.
