Today, Her Majesty The Queen joined 6,500 racegoers on the first day of Dubai Duty Free Weekend, which commences the Flat season at the Middleton’s local track, Newbury Racecourse.

Thousands of racegoers attracted to the course as part of the Racing For Change Free Racing Month were treated to an extra bonus with The Queen making one of her final public appearances before the Royal wedding.

To help new racegoers get the most from their day at the races, visitors were provided with the ‘Inside Track’ – a pocket-size guide including tips on how to bet and jargon buster on racing lingo. Several masterclasses also featured on betting explained and picking a paddock winner as well as a behind the scenes tour and trip to the race start. The Inside Track initiative will feature at all Saturday fixtures at Newbury Racecourse.

The Queen, no stranger to the racecourse, was supporting her horse, Caraboss in the Robert Sangster Memorial Maiden Fillies Stakes, who was just pipped at the post into the second place by Imperial Pippin. Her majesty also has four horses entered in races on Day two of the Dubai Duty Free weekend at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday.

Stephen Higgins, Joint Managing Director of Newbury Racecourse says: “The Flat season is certainly kicking off in style and we were always expecting a strong crowd with thousands of free tickets claimed via the Racing For Change Free Racing Month initiative and it was an extra treat for racegoers to see the Queen supporting her horse here today.”
