Royal Ascot presents the finest of the British fashion-pack

This year, the Royal Ascot Fashion Show makes a highly-anticipated return, presenting the ultimate in elite British couture from catwalks across the globe.

For five consecutive days (Tuesday 14th June–Saturday 18th June 2011), racegoers can delight in some of the finest British garments and accessories from around the world in the stunning panoramic surroundings of the Bessborough Restaurant.

Now a customary highlight of the Royal Meeting, the daily fashion show gives guests a privileged insight into some of the work of Britain’s most esteemed fashion designers, featuring key pieces from their Spring/Summer 2011 collections. This year’s catwalk sees the return of the Grand Dame of British fashion and three-time British Designer of the year, Vivienne Westwood. Adding to the list of front-liners is millinery master, Stephen Jones, and fashion’s finest Amanda Wakeley.

Supporting the best in emerging talent, Royal Ascot is also pleased to announce its continuing partnership with The British Fashion Council this year. Pioneering the British reputation for design excellence, Royal Ascot’s renowned support for British designers demonstrates the unique, creative and cultural flair that inspires and is admired by international audiences around the world. A once-in-a-lifetime experience, this presents the winners of the BFC’s NEWGEN 2011 Award with a unique opportunity to feature alongside the finest of the British fashion-pack for the course of the five days.

Vivienne Westwood is set to showcase her notorious cutting-edge style, including signature pieces from her Spring/Summer 2011 Gold Label and archive collection. Inspired by lost civilizations and forgotten pasts, this beautiful collection is practical and, most importantly, wearable; epitomising her mantra of “buy less, choose well, wear it over and over again, and most importantly have fun”.

Stephen Jones will entertain racegoers with intricate day-wear and bespoke designs from his hazy ‘Drifting and Dreaming’ Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Set to inspire viewers, this collection evokes a whimsical feel, showing off its surreal contrast of asymmetric shapes, with flowers and driftwood. Jones looks upon this collection like a painting, gradually building from a background to foreground, highlighting the immense details and intricate nature of his unique designs.

Further adding to the display of stunning creations, fashion forward Amanda Wakeley will present the best in contemporary design from her latest collection; infusing soft silk drapes of desert palettes with stark injections of magenta and coral. Her contemporary, elegant designs remain true to her sophisticated style that has received world-wide accolade internationally.

The daily fashion show, in association with Longines, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and Piper Heidsieck Champagne, is fast becoming one of the most highly anticipated events of the Royal Meeting as guests continue to be captivated by the show. A stunning production, each collection is shown between courses of the finest dining, with the grand finale scheduled in perfect timing for the arrival of Her Majesty The Queen.

Gary England, Director of Hospitality, comments: “2011 is a significant year for Royal Ascot, as we celebrate the 300th anniversary of the racecourse itself. It goes without saying that fashion and racing have always gone hand in hand, and what better way to help mark this momentous occasion than featuring not only the finest in internationally renowned British designers but showcasing the best in emerging new talent too. It epitomises Royal Ascot in celebrating both the classic British style that has graced the greens of Ascot for 300 years, and moving forward, representing the changing face of this timeless British event.”
