One lucky racegoer was treated to an amazing VIP ticket upgrade at Redcar Racecourse’s Zetland Gold Cup race meeting.

North East born Julie Peary was randomly selected as the golden ticket winner after pre-booking her tickets. She spent the day as a VIP after her original ticket was upgraded to a package worth over £500.

Julie enjoyed the full VIP treatment with her family, who were there celebrating her mum’s 90th birthday, which Redcar Racecourse made extra special.

The luxury package included a three course gourmet meal in the restaurant and having the ‘Congratulations Golden Ticket Winner Julie Peary Selling Stakes’ race named in her honour which featured in the racecard.

Along with her family, Julie was thrilled to present the trophy to the winner of her race. She said: “I’ve had a great day. The golden ticket upgrade has made my mum, Amelia English’s 90th birthday celebrations even better than expected.”

She continued: “Redcar Racecourse has looked after us so well today, thank you so much, we will definitely be coming back.”

The golden ticket was in celebration of the historical Zetland Gold Cup race, one of the most prestigious at Redcar Racecourse and has been run annually since the end of the Second World War.

Over 3,000 people flocked from all around the North East to attend the Bank Holiday event which included Page2stage entertainment from The Wizard of Oz characters, stilt walkers, face painters and bouncy castles, for the children.

Amy Fair, General Manager at Redcar Racecourse said: “We’re pleased to say we’ve had another wonderful Zetland Gold Cup raceday. It’s a pleasure to share this special race day with so many other people and it’s just a shame Middlesbrough couldn’t top the day off with being promoted.”

The remainder of the season for 2015 is jam packed with other feature racedays such as Help For Heroes Family Fun Day and Caribbean Carnival Day. The last feature meeting of the season is the famous Two Year Old Trophy on Saturday 3rd October. The next feature racing meeting is the Ladies’ Day on Saturday 20th June.
