Racing returns to Wincanton Racecourse a week Thursday (13 October) and the course is celebrating with a strong six race card with Bathwick Tyres, a long term sponsor of racing, taking the entire card.

Horses come under starters’ orders at 2.20pm and for the journey home racegoers will received a free packet of Burts Chips.

General Manager, Steve Parlett, explains: “We have a four month break at Wincanton and it always seems a long time with no racing. We are so pleased to be back in action we thought we’d celebrate by giving our racegoers a little something extra.”

The first of six ‘2011’ jump fixtures is swiftly followed by the immensely popular Charity Raceday on Sunday, 23rd October with proceeds going towards St Margaret Hospice and Verrington Hospital. There’s jump racing as well on two afternoons in November. The feature event being the prestigious £180,000 Badger Ales Chase Day on Saturday, 5th November, followed by a traditional Thursday 17th November raceday. December arrives with Christmas Party Day on Thursday 1st and before the end of 2011 when a 12,000 strong crowd is expected at Wincanton Racecourse for the Boxing Day bonanza.

Steve adds: “We are very excited about the new season and look forward to welcoming everyone back. We regularly have top class horses here, like Overturn, Mille Chief, Meanus Dandy and successful veterans; Straw Bear and Swing Bill. We are very lucky that horses of that calibre come to Wincanton – it means people in the West Country can see the country’s very best in action.”
