Pull out all the style stops for the grand finale of the British flat racing season – QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot.
Firm Fashion Favourites: Metallic Pleats, Plush Velvet.
From steely silver to molten gold, metallic pleated skirts and dresses are the shining stars in this season’s trends list. For a day at the races, silver shimmering in the daylight will be a cool winner.
Catching all the (lime) light is Bruce by Bruce Oldfield’s silver pleated knit dress with a hint of metallic fibre. Exclusive to John Lewis Price, price £129.
We’ve had a scorcher of a September so what are the odds on a warm October? Our betting tip is to layer your look to be prepared for all types of weather.
The fine knit of the dress is ideal for the changeable weather – wear on its own if the weather is warm or wear with a long sleeved t-shirt/thin jumper underneath if the weather turns colder. Uniqlo’s Heattech stretchy tees are perfect for underneath plus they are designed to keep the body warm. Tone with the silver grey colour. Price £12.90.
The midi length of the dress allows for a full range of footwear styles from strappy sandals to knee-high boots. This way you can decide on the day, to accommodate the unpredictable October weather.
A safe and glamorous bet is the ankle boot which doesn’t look out of place in warm or cold weather.
Mint Velvet’s limited edition Sami ankle boot juxtaposes a soft grey suede front with glimmering silver leather back. The cute kitten heel offers comfort with style, a much needed combination for a full day at the races. Available from John Lewis. Price £139.
Bring the look together with a touch of 1920s retro in the form of the Calla Lily felt cloche from John Lewis. In soft but durable grey felt, it features a round crown and narrow dropped brim embellished with a simple but stunning black calla lily detailing. Price £45.
Velvet is another BIG trend for this season.
M&S’s Per Una rose pink velvet belted jacket will co-ordinate with the silver pleated dress perfectly. The loose lounge style also fits the pyjama look, a trend which refuses to go to fashion bed, whilst the belt cinches in the waist. The longer length also gives a 1920s retro feel when matched with the midi pleated skirt and cloche hat. Available in the stores from October. Approx £79.
Ted Baker Starburst necklace makes a statement with its sparkling floral design, whilst its pale rose gold colouring brings a delicacy to the look. Available from John Lewis. Price £99.
Keep all your racing essentials (brolly, scarf, sunglasses) in this retro style Cath Kidston forest rose embossed folio handbag from Daisy Park. PVC coated cotton (great for the rainy days) with leather shoulder handles. Available from Daisy Park. Price £80.
Pop a small clutch bag in to your tote for when you want a more formal look. Wallis’s black floral embroidered box clutch fits the bill perfectly. Was £30 now £21.
