London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017
Designer: Ong Oaj Pairam

Ong Oaj Pairam’s inspirations take you on a great American road trip from the Wild Wild West to the Deep South, finishing off at the Grand Canyon. He looks to those empowering female country singers ranging from Dolly Parton to Shania Twain.

The collection features delicate ultra feminine fabrics and colour ways of silk and organza in vintage floral and cactus prints which sit happily alongside rodeo approved suede and pony skin worn with embroidered indigo cowboy shirts.

Pairam’s signature hand-sewn flower appliqués make a ‘Yee-haw’ statement as they cluster around the shoulders and collar of a denim blue suede jacket. Teamed here with a feminine dress in cactus print and ruffles.

In this collection, Ong takes his embroidery to another level. Not only is it present in his signature floral designs shown on a pastel blue lace dress and the bodice of a delicate pink evening dress, but also as a leopard print providing embossed texture on denim style jackets.

Key Looks include:

Hand-beaded cowboy shirt dress in indigo blue with fringing. The beads are positioned in a diagonal gingham pattern to enhance that Wild West country look.

Candy sweet Prairie dresses: cactus print prairie dress with magenta lace and Dolly Parton pink ruffled prairie dress.

Denim effect trousers with fringed layers and embroidered edged slashes, worn with a satin pink cowboy shirt and embroidered leopard print biker jacket in Dolly Parton pink and indigo blue.

There is also a nod to David Hockney’s painting ‘Grand Canyon’ with key colours of sunset red, midnight blue, and burnt orange sparkling on a desert sunset sequin evening dress; cactus green looking cool on smooth silk evening dress and the natural desert formations seen as cascading ruffles and frills on a sandy coloured leopard print evening dress.

Our choices for a Day at the Races

Ideal for: Cheltenham Festival – Ong’s leopard print pony skin suit would be perfect for this late winter/early spring race. Swap the soft satin pink cowboy shirt for a fine knit jumper and the blush suede mules for knee-high boots if the weather is cold.

Ideal for: Newmarket Guineas or Epsom Derby Festivals – Statement leopard print jumpsuit with lace embellished pockets and shoulders. In true Pairam style the leopard print isn’t all that it seems. Look closely and you’ll see silhouettes of cacti amongst the animal print.

Ideal for: Aintree Grand National – a simple pale pink suede bustier dress where Ong’s signature floral appliqués cling stealthily on to the edges of the tiered layers. Wear with blush suede mules as seen on the model or make a statement in a pair of cowboy boots.

Most of the outfits were accessorised with necklaces mimicking the cowboy’s bootlace tie. Designed by Carolina Bucci www.carolinabucci.com
