The starting stalls fly open at Nottingham Racecourse for the first time this year on Wednesday (6 April) – and Her Majesty The Queen is targeting the major race of the afternoon.

Her former Royal Ascot winner Free Agent will compete for the ‘Further Flight’ Stakes.

The one and three quarter mile race, which attracts quality older horses, is in memory of the popular grey horse Further Flight who raced in the 1990s at a high level into relative old age for a Flat racing horse and whose final victory was at Nottingham.

Free Agent, also bred by The Queen and who is now five years old, will have the assistance of three times champion jockey Ryan Moore.

Among seven other horses opposing him is Halla San, third in last year’s ‘Further Flight’ Stakes behind Opinion Poll under jockey Frankie Dettori.

Five hundred visitors, who claimed tickets online, will be at Nottingham Racecourse free of charge on Wednesday as part of Racing for Change’s ‘free racing month’.

To mark the start of the Flat racing season, two tickets for the price of one are being offered in the Grandstand Enclosure for advance bookings. The first race is at 2.20pm.

General admission: Grandstand £10; Premier £16. Accompanied children 18 always admitted free of charge. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 0844 579 3011 or booked online at
