Horseracing was established at Goodwood by the third Duke of Richmond in 1802 and now, over two centuries later, the course is renowned as being one of the most picturesque in the world.

With views of the Sussex Downs and the Solent as its backdrop, the tented pavilions and green lawns combine with the relaxed social buzz and effortless chic of its racegoers to ooze an atmosphere of quintessential English country garden: a point not missed by King Edward VII who famously described the Glorious Goodwood meeting as “a garden party with racing tacked on”. (He emphasised his opinion by ditching the formal morning dress and replacing it with a linen suit topped off with a Panama hat – a move that men still follow at the meeting today.)

Add to this mix a generous helping of top-quality horseracing – including the Group One Sussex Stakes – and you can see why this event lives up to its name.

Glorious Goodwood 2015 runs from Tuesday, 28th July to Saturday, 1st August.
