Single – A bet on 1 selection in 1 event. Your selection must win in order to get a return.
Each-way single – Consists of 2 bets on 1 selection in 1 event. The first bet is on the selection to win and the second bet is on the selection to finish in the allotted placings i.e. second, third etc. The place terms will vary depending on the event and the place part of the bet is settled at the relevant place odds. For example, if the place terms for a race are the first three at a fifth of the odds and your selection finishes second or third, you will receive only a fifth of the full odds times your stake money as a return. A £1 each-way single has a total Stake of £2.
Place only – Involves 1 selection in 1 event. Your selection must be placed for your bet to win and your return will depend on the place terms displayed on the event.
Placepot – A UK tote bet where your selection in the first 6 races of a meeting has to be placed to receive a share of the pool. Jackpot bet is also available where your selection in the first 6 races of a meeting has to win for you to receive a share of the pool. Dividend declared to £1 stakes.
Double – Consists of 1 bet involving 2 selections in different events. Both selections must win in order for you to get a return, with returns from the first re-invested on the second.
Each-way double – Consists of 2 bets involving 2 selections in different events. The first bet is on both selections to win and the second is on both selections to be placed. Both selections must win or be placed in order for you to get a return, with the returns for the first re-invested on the second on a win-to-win and place-to-place basis.
Treble – Consists of 1 bet involving 3 selections in different events. All 3 selections must win in order for you to get a return. The returns from the first are re-invested on the second and then onto the third.
Each-way treble – Consists of 2 bets involving 3 selections in different events. The first bet is on all selections to win and the second bet is on all selections to be placed. All selections must win or be placed in order for you to get a return, with the returns from the first re-invested on the second and then onto the third on a win-to-win and place-to-place basis.
Accumulator – An accumulator (sometimes known as a ‘roll-up’ and in the US as a ‘parlay’) is 1 bet with 4 or more selections from different events. For example, Four-fold accumulator = Accumulator with four selections, Five-fold accumulator = Accumulator with five selections, and so on. All selections must win in order for you to get a return. The returns from each selection are re-invested on successive selections.
Each-way accumulator – Consists of 2 bets on 4 or more selections in different events. The first bet is on all selections to win and the second bet is on all selections to be placed. All selections must win or be placed in order for you to get a return, with the returns from each selection re-invested on successive selections on a win-to-win and place-to-place basis.
Single Stakes About (or SSA) – This bet consists of 2 single bets on 2 selections (the stake on each successful selection is re-invested on the other selection). Also known as a ‘vice-versa’
Double Stakes About (or DSA) – This is the same as ‘single stakes about’, but where returns from the first winning selection are invested at double the original stake on the second selection. You can also have triple stakes about, quadruple stakes about etc.
Trixie – Consists of 4 bets involving 3 selections from different events:
3 doubles, 1 treble – a minimum of 2 of your selections must win in order for you to get a return. A £1 Trixie has a total stake of £4.
Each-way Trixie – Consists of 8 bets involving 3 selections from different events.
3 win doubles, 3 place doubles, 1 win treble, 1 place treble – a minimum of 2 of your selections must win in order for you to get a return. A £1 each-way Trixie has a total stake of £8.
Patent – Consists of 7 bets involving 3 selections from different events:
3 singles, 3 doubles, 1 treble – at least 1 selection must win in order for you to get a return. A £1 patent has a total stake of £7.
Each-way Patent – Consists of 14 bets involving 3 selections from different events:
3 win singles, 3 place singles, 3 win doubles, 3 place doubles, 1 win treble, 1 place treble – you need only 1 selection to win or place in order for you to get a return. A £1 each-way Patent has a total stake of £14.
Round Robin – Consists of 10 bets involving 3 selections in different events:
3 pairs of ‘single stakes about’ bets, 3 doubles, 1 treble – you need only 1 winner to guarantee a return. A £1 Round Robin has a total stake of £10.
Yankee – Consists of 11 bets involving 4 selections from different events:
6 doubles, 4 trebles, 1 accumulator – a minimum of 2 of your selections must win in order for you to get a return. A £1 Yankee has a total stake of £11.
Each-way Yankee – Consists of 22 bets involving 4 selections from different events:
6 win doubles, 6 place doubles, 4 win trebles, 4 place trebles, 1 accumulator – a minimum of 2 of your selections must win or place in order for you to get a return. A £1 each-way Yankee has a total stake of £22.
Lucky 15 – Consists of 15 bets involving 4 selections in different events:
4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles, 1 accumulator – you need only 1 winner to guarantee a return. A £1 lucky 15 has a total stake of £15.
Each-way Lucky 15 – Consists of 30 bets involving 4 selections in different events:
4 win singles, 4 place singles, 6 win doubles, 6 place doubles, 4 win trebles, 4 place doubles, 1 win accumulator, 1 place accumulator – you need only 1 win or place to guarantee a return. A £1 each-way Lucky 15 has a total stake of £30.
Flag – Consists of 23 bets on 4 selections in different events:
6 ‘Single stakes about’ bets in pairs, 6 doubles, 4 trebles, 1 accumulator – you need only 1 win to guarantee a return. A £1 flag has a total stake of £23.
Canadian or Super Yankee – Consists of 26 bets involving 5 selections from different events:
10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-fold accumulators, 1 five-fold accumulator – you need a minimum of 2 of your selections to win to get a return. A £1 Canadian has a total stake of £26.
Each-way Canadian or Super Yankee – Consists of 52 bets involving 5 selections from different events:
10 win doubles, 10 place doubles, 10 win trebles, 10 place trebles, 5 win four-fold accumulators, 5 place four-fold accumulators, 1 five-fold accumulator, 1 place five-fold accumulator – you need a minimum of two of your selections to win or place to get a return. A £1 each-way Canadian has a total stake of £52.
Lucky 31 – Consists of 31 bets involving 5 selections in different events:
5 singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-fold accumulators, 1 five-fold accumulator – you need only 1 win to guarantee a return. A £1 Lucky 31 has a total stake of £31.
Each-way Lucky 31 – Consists of 62 bets involving 5 selections in different events:
5 win singles, 5 place singles, 10 win doubles, 10 place doubles, 10 win trebles, 10 place trebles, 5 win four-fold accumulators, 5 place four-fold accumulators, 1 win five-fold accumulator, 1 place five-fold accumulator – you need only 1 of your selections to win or place to get a return. A £1 each-way lucky 31 has a total stake of £62.
Heinz – Consists of 57 bets involving 6 selections from different events:
15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-fold accumulators, 6 five-fold accumulators, 1 six-fold accumulator – a minimum of 2 of your selections must win in order for you to get a return. A £1 Heinz has a total stake of £57.
Each-way Heinz – Consists of 114 bets involving 6 selections from different events:
