Lasting Make-up: We’ve prepped our make-up, added the foundations, now we’re approaching the finishing line.

Make-up Setting Mist

Last but not least, this is the final step of your make-up routine at home. These sprays can make your make-up last for up to 16 hours.

Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray features temperature control technology that lowers the temperature of your make-up to keep it in place without melting, fading or settling into fine lines for up to 16 hours. Price £23.50 from John Lewis.

What to Put in Your handbag

Now your make-up is set and ready for a day at the races, keep the following in your handbag to ensure it stays that way:

Control shine build-up during the day with finishing powder and blotting paper. Alternating between the two throughout the day will ensure an even coverage of make-up.

Finishing Powder

Translucent finishing powder will control the shine without mattefying the face.

It isn’t just the horses that are in the limelight but racegoers too. Be camera ready with Wunder2’s Perfect Selfie HD Finishing Powder. Works by absorbing the light and camera flashback creating an airbrushed and poreless finish. The powder does not settle in fine lines or creases but expands and contracts with the skin.

Price £19.95 from Superdrug.

Blotting Paper

Blotting paper will absorb any excess shine that develops during the day without ruining your make-up. This is a great way to remove sweat and oil without piling on more make-up.

Shiseido Pureness Oil Control Blotting Paper is lightly coated with anti-bacterial powder to absorb the oil, give the skin a matte appearance and stop the rapid increase of bacteria that may lead to blemishes. Price £19 for 100 sheets from Feel Unique.

Cotton buds

If after all the careful make-up application you still have smudges, cotton buds will help reduce the appearance. The key is to dab and rotate the cotton bud over the skin rather than swipe. Use DHC Olive Virgin Oil cotton swabs which are infused with olive oil to cleanse and moisturise. They are individually wrapped so ideal for even in the smallest clutches.

Price £6.75 from Escentual.

Also take a few normal (dry) cotton buds to dab the olive oil away and to apply a small amount of finishing powder.

And off course include your favourite lipstick – with all the champagne celebrations on backing the winning horse, retouches may be necessary.
