Chez Roux to star at Epsom Derby Festival

The incredibly popular French–English two-star Michelin chefs Michel Roux Jr and his father Albert Roux, have teamed up with Epsom Downs Racecourse to produce ‘Chez Roux on the Prince’s Lawn’ at the world-renowned Investec Derby Festival on Friday, 6th and Saturday, 7th June.

The outstanding father and son combination, synonymous with the very best in fine dining, and who own and run the famous London restaurant Le Gavroche, are pleased to confirm the extension of their involvement with Jockey Club Racecourses, following on from announcing their presence at The Cheltenham Festival.

Chez Roux on the Prince’s Lawn will bring a bistro-inspired offer to the two-day festival. Albert and Michel will produce a menu created exclusively for the Princes Lawn with a series of signature dishes.

Guests will be able to enjoy a three-course meal including dishes such as English Asparagus, Hen Egg, Feta Cheese, Aubergine Caviar and Truffle Dressing, followed by an Assiette du bouché – Roast fillet of beef with mushroom, pork belly with apple sauce, venison sausage with mash potato and onion gravy, lamb chop with ratatouille or the choice of a Plateau de fruits de mer.

The restaurant is one of the most sought after restaurants during the Investec Derby Festival due to the far-reaching views of the racecourse. Prices start at £549 per person + VAT.

Albert Roux commented, “I am delighted to be involved with the Investec Derby as this race meeting is a major part of the British social calendar and I feel immensely proud to be showcasing our food at this prestigious event.”

Michel Roux Jr took over the running of Le Gavroche in 1991 from his father Albert and gradually changed the style of cooking to his own – classic French with a lighter, modern twist. He is seen on our TV screen as a presenter on all three series of ‘Great British Food Revival and more recently fronted the highly anticipated return of BBC 2’s ‘Food and Drink’.

Rupert Trevelyan, Regional Director of London Racecourses, said: “We are very excited to be working alongside two outstanding Michelin Starred chefs to provide an additional dimension to the creative thinking behind the Investec Derby menu development.”

The Investec Derby Festival is a highlight of Britain’s sporting and social calendar which attracts more than 125,000 people during the two day festival to enjoy a combination of spectacular horseracing, fabulous fashions, fine dining and an unbeatable atmosphere.

Investec Ladies’ Day on Friday 6 June attracts a wealth of stylish ladies for a classic day’s racing and headlining the day’s entertainment will be the Investec Oaks, which features some of the world’s finest three year old fillies battling it out for £425,000 in prize money.

The Investec Derby Day on Saturday 7 June 2014 remains one of the most famous events in the world’s racing calendar and the Investec Derby, in its 235th year, is the UK’s most valuable race worth £1.325 million in prize money.

Chez Roux on the Princes Lawn is available for lunch during the two days Investec Derby Festival. For further information or to book your table, please contact the sales team on 01372 47 77 47.
