8:50 – Hamilton – TURFTV CLASSIFIED STAKES (CLASS 5) (3-4yo 0–70) Good 1m 1f 36y

On the face of it District Attorney’s finishing positions in his first three races do not inspire too much confidence.

However, the three-year-old bay colt is running for the in-form William Haggas yard which has had six winners and eight placed horses from 29 runners over the last 14 days. Moreover, the Haggas yard has a 50% winning strike rate with his three-year-old runners at Hamilton over the past five years.

In his three runs to date District Attorney ran twice last season finishing down the field on both starts. He made his seasonal reappearance on 30 April in a Maiden race over 1 mile on the all-weather track. His run was much improved from his efforts last season and he was well in touch until the last 2 furlongs when he stayed on at the same pace as he had been a touch keen early on.

He is the type of horse that his yard does well with in handicaps having shown little in Maidens before being stepped up in trip. District Attorney appeals as the type to do well over middle distances. He is a half brother to a two-year-old 7 furlong winner in Luminous Eyes and 1 mile winner Michikabu both of whom were useful in Ireland.

District Attorney is bred to be useful and looks ready for a step up in trip judging by the way he was staying on under a hand and heels ride at Kempton last time. His record to date is one of steady improvement and running off bottom weight is very much of interest this evening considering the yard which trains him.

"I live in the North of Cumbria near the Solway Coast. My wife and I own a smallholding where we keep our horses. I have been involved in racing for over 20 years – the highlight being when a 2yo I owned won first time out at Hamilton Park. I work full-time in the racing game spending my time writing, researching and on course as a paddock judge – you can learn more about a horse’s chances watching them in the pre-parade and parade rings than you might imagine."
