The following trainers have high strike rates with favourites in the following races at Fontwell today:

2:20 – Captain Kirkton – No 2 – Gary Moore Gary Moore has a 31.2% winning strike rate in Novice Hurdles at Fontwell since 2004 with 5 winners from 16 runners when his horses go off as favourite.

Captain Kirkton has had two career runs to date. He finished 2nd in an all weather bumper at Kempton in December when the surface was riding standard to slow. He made his hurdling debut 0n 3 January at Lingfield over 2 miles 3 furlongs in heavy ground. He tracked the leaders that day until joining them 3 out. He only had to be shaken up going to the last to sprint clear and score to win by 17 lengths with any amount in hand. He has a good pedigree – his dam is a sister to Celestial Gold – and he should be extremely difficult to beat under his penalty today.

DID YOU KNOW? In January 2011 Tony Ward put up 35 selections for Eclipse readers, of which 15 won (42.85% winning strike rate). A £10 level stake investment on each selection produced a profit of £117.78 to industry starting prices.

“I live in the North of Cumbria near the Solway Coast. My wife and I own a smallholding where we keep our horses. I have been involved in racing for over 20 years – the highlight being when a 2yo I owned won first time out at Hamilton Park. I work full-time in the racing game spending my time writing, researching and on course as a paddock judge – you can learn more about a horse’s chances watching them in the pre-parade and parade rings than you might imagine.”
