Guineas Festival 2017: The QIPCO Guineas Festival at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile kicks off the Flat racing season with the first two Classic races of 2017, the QIPCO 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas. This year’s Guineas take place on Saturday 6th May (2,000 Guineas) and Sunday 7th May (1,000 Guineas). Piggott 2,000 Guineas: To mark the 60th anniversary since he claimed his first victory in the 2,000 Guineas aboard Crepello, Lester Piggott has spoken about that momentous year, 1957, during which he claimed no fewer than eight races which now make up the QIPCO British Champions Series. Nicky Henderson won the Champion Jump Trainer title for a fourth time in his career on Saturday 24th April at Sandown Park Racecourse after a tightly fought battle with defending champion Paul Nicholls. Henderson claimed the championship, which is based on total prize money won through the duration of the season (April to April), after putting enough distance between himself and Nicholls on the final day of the season.
