It was sunny on Tuesday and we should perhaps have done our fashion coverage then instead of waiting for Ladies' Day on Thursday, when the rain began to set in! Over the Festival however there was a great variety of styles and fashion, varying from the very dressed down and severely practical, to the dizzying heights of soignée perfection.
While the latter group looked undeniably beautiful, and were dressed perfectly for the after-party, in our coverage we have tried to show what is appropriate for the seasons bearing in mind the amount of standing and walking one needs to do and the variable English weather!
A great many ladies managed to choose exactly the right balance between high style and comfort however, and it was great to see so many beautifully turned out of all ages. Some of the oldest ladies wore the best outfits – one in particular who must have been in her 70s and looked fantastic every day – although they were more shy of being 'snapped'.
It has to be admitted though that the Brits must try harder next year: almost every lady I stopped on Ladies' Day (and the winners of the BDL Awards) were over from Ireland! So well done to the colleens, and we will rise to the challenge next year.
