Day three at Glorious Goodwood is Ladies' Day, and the glam factor is cranked up to 11. The warm July sun smiled down upon resplendent racegoers in beautiful hats and dazzling colourful outfits as they savoured English strawberries and cream.
This year's Ladies' Day was given an extra dimension as the first race of the day was jockeyed completely by celebrity ladies in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital. The winner was model Edie Campbell on Harrodian Hotshot. Other Jockeys taking part were Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox, Tatler editor Kate Reardon, and wife of Pink Floyd member Nick Mason, Annette Lynton-Mason, who unfortunately fell off her horse shortly after crossing the finish, resulting in a trip to hospital.
Frankie Dettori, who has been top jockey at Glorious Goodwood in four previous years secured himself a back-to-back double. Firstly, in the 3.15 Artemis Goodwood Cup on Opinion Poll, followed half an hour later in the 3.45 I-Shares Fillies Stakes on Meeznah. The charming Dettori clearly relished the adulation of the appreciative race attendees, as he cantered back past the stands before entering the winner’s enclosure.
The demand for Glorious Goodwood has grown yet again from the previous year with Gordon Enclosure completely sold out.
