Royal Ascot Fashion and Ascot Fashion

Many people are confused by ‘Royal Ascot’, thinking that is the name of the racecourse, when in fact it is the name of one particular occasion at Ascot Racecourse (not Royal Ascot Racecourse!).

Royal Ascot – the occasion – takes place annually at Ascot Racecourse, for a week during the month of June.

Ascot Racecourse stages other racedays throughout the year – with both Flat racing and Jump racing – but the other racedays have their own themes and are not connected with ‘Royal Ascot’.

Consequently, there are two quite distinct types of Ascot Fashion: ‘Royal’ Ascot Fashion and ‘Everything else’ Ascot Fashion.

Royal Ascot fashion is a completely unique style of dressing, with gorgeous hats and outfits on show all week. During Royal Ascot week there is also a Ladies’ Day, and on this day in particular, the entire point of going to the races is the dresses and the hats!

It’s no exaggeration that Royal Ascot ladies start to select NEXT year’s dresses for the races almost as soon as THIS year’s Royal Ascot is over.

Should you be lucky enough to attend Royal Ascot, take care – there are numerous rules that Ascot Racecourse applies to the racegoers’ fashion so be careful to check what to wear and even more importantly, what NOT to wear before you select your outfit… the Royal Ascot Fashion police ARE watching and wearing the wrong type of dress or other fashion outfit can completely spoil your day, so be prepared!

Gentlemen need to follow the racing fashion code while attending Royal Ascot as well, so make sure you read the rules before you go… Top Hat and Tails are most definitely the order of the day. You might be more interested in the races, but the way a gentleman dresses is as important as it is for ladies when at Royal Ascot, and there is a very strict dress code regarding the men’s fashion too.

If you are going to the races at Ascot for a different race meeting, then the dress codes are more relaxed and the trick of the true fashionista is more to combine the fashion trends for the season with practical elements according to all-day comfort plus the weather.
